Ekwinder Singh was born on 3 April 1955 in a village named Parheeran, which is in Hoshiarpur district. Now this village has been acquired and has become a part of the Municipal Corporation of Hoshiarpur city. Ikwinder Singh's maternal uncle's name is Gurmeet Kaur and father's name is S. Channan Singh. They are two siblings. Purheeran is the maternal village of Ikwinder Singh. The seat is Kandali village, Narangpur, Hoshiarpur district. In 1953, his mother was appointed as a teacher in the village's government primary school. His father took disability pension from the army and started working in Bombay (Mumbai). Due to this, he kept his permanent residence in his maternal village Parheeran. Ikwinder Singh completed his primary education from Government Primary School Parheeran and his sixth to eighth education from Lyallpur Sanatan High School, Keeri. Passed ninth and tenth from Government High School, Khwaspur, Kiran. In 1970, he joined Government College, Hoshiarpur and studied there up to B.A. and M.A. (Punjabi). In 1980, he did B. Ed from D.A. V. College of Education, Hoshiarpur.
