Title

AYURVEDIC PERSPECTIVE OF CHRONIC KIDNEY DISEASE.

Abstract

ABSTRACT Aim: To understand the concept of Chronic kidney disorder through the principles of Ayurveda. Introduction: Chronic kidney disease represents a gradual decline in the kidney functions that may eventually necessitate renal replacement therapies including dialysis or transplantation. The prevalence of CKD in the general population is estimated to be around 10% to 14%.In Ayurveda ,disorders of the Mutravaha srotas has its Vyapti in disorders like Prameha , Mutraaghata, Mutrakruchra, Udara and Shotha etc. It becomes important to explore each pathway to get deeper insight of the disease. Thus an attempt has been made to understand CKD through Ayurvedic principles. Materials and methods: Ayurvedic classical texts along with authentic internet sources were referred for updated information on the concepts. Discussion: In Ayurveda we see that the Samprapti of different diseases can lead to disorders of Basti . Kledavaahana is the major karma of Mutra and when that is affected Kleda is retained in the body leading to a lot of other diseases. This study throws light on understanding disorders of Mutravahasrotas as a Swatantra and a Paratantra Vyadhi. Result: Aṣṭāṅga Hṛdaya emphasizes that identifying a disease by its name is secondary to understanding its Samprapti (pathogenesis). Thus even in Chronic kidney disease, analyzing individual Lakṣaṇas, Nidānas, and Samprāpti in each patient allows for a more tailored treatment approach, often yielding quicker and more sustained therapeutic results.

Key Words
