Title

Towards Robust Cloud Data Integrity Review of Secure Hashing and Encryption

Abstract

The rapid adoption of cloud computing has transformed data storage and management by offering scalability, flexibility, and cost efficiency. However, outsourcing sensitive data to third-party cloud service providers raises serious concerns regarding data integrity, confidentiality, and trust. Ensuring that cloud-stored data remains unaltered and secure against unauthorized access has become a critical research challenge. This survey paper presents a comprehensive review of existing techniques aimed at achieving robust cloud data integrity, with a particular focus on secure hashing and encryption mechanisms. Various cryptographic hash functions, including SHA-family algorithms and message authentication codes, are examined for their role in integrity verification, tamper detection, and auditability. In addition, symmetric and asymmetric encryption schemes are analyzed with respect to data protection, access control, and performance overhead in cloud environments. The survey also explores advanced approaches such as homomorphic hashing, attribute-based encryption, and third-party auditing frameworks that enhance integrity assurance without compromising data privacy. Key challenges, limitations, and trade-offs among security strength, computational efficiency, and scalability are critically discussed. Finally, this paper highlights open research issues and future directions toward developing resilient, efficient, and trustworthy cloud data integrity solutions
