Title

“Corrosion Mitigation of Aluminum in Basic Media Using Aloe Barbadensis (Alovera) Extract as Green Inhibitors”

Abstract

Researchers investigated the corrosion‐inhibiting efficacy of Aloe Barbadensis extract (ABE), a plant-based green inhibitor, for protecting aluminum in alkaline media. The study employed weight loss measurements along with electrochemical and surface analysis techniques such as potentiodynamic polarization (PDP), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX). Weight loss experiments were conducted to evaluate the inhibition efficiency of the extract with different NaOH concentrations, while its temperature-dependent behavior was examined at 0.05N NaOH concentrations. The findings revealed that ABE molecules adsorbed on the aluminum metal surface following the Langmuir adsorption isotherm. Thermodynamic parameters specified that the adsorption process was spontaneous and favorable. SEM analysis revealed the formation of a protective film on the aluminum surface, which significantly reduced corrosion, while EDX analysis confirmed the presence of adsorbed chemical species, verifying the formation of a protective coating. Overall, the results highlight the potential of Aloe barbadensis extract as an effective, eco-friendly corrosion inhibitor for aluminum in alkaline environments, offering a sustainable alternative to conventional inhibitors.
