The advancement of information and communication technology has significantly transformed the banking sector, shifting it from traditional branch-based operations to digital platforms. Online banking has emerged as an advanced and efficient form of doorstep banking, enabling customers to access banking services anytime and anywhere. While online banking offers benefits such as convenience, speed, cost reduction, and financial inclusion, it also exposes users and institutions to various cyber security threats. This paper aims to examine online banking as an advanced step of doorstep banking, analyze the level of customer awareness regarding online banking services, and identify major threats associated with digital banking. The study is descriptive in nature and is based on secondary data collected from published research articles, reports of regulatory authorities, banking publications, and credible online sources. The findings reveal that although customers are largely aware of the advantages of online banking, awareness regarding cyber threats and safe online practices remains inadequate. Phishing, malware attacks, identity theft, and data breaches are identified as major challenges affecting the adoption and trust in online banking. The study concludes that strengthening customer awareness, improving cyber security infrastructure, and implementing effective regulatory measures are essential for the sustainable growth of online banking.
