Anatomical Studies of Petiole In Some Rubiaceae - I

Abstract
The petiolar anatomy of 15 species belonging to 10 genera of the family Rubiaceae. The petioles (in T.S.) are planoconvex or circular in outline. They are mostly winged and channeled adaxially. The paper informs about the development and distribution of different tissues and cell inclusions. The vasculature is resolved into a prominent central arc, besides few other vascular bundles. The central arc is triangular, lunar or crescent-shaped and horse shoe-shaped. The vascular arcs or bundles are capped abaxially by a few sclerenchymatous layers, except few. The anatomical features revealed are thought taxonomically significant.
