Title

Phytochemical and Anti-Alzheimer Evaluation of Rhizome Extracts of AcorusCalamus Linn and Eugenol in Combination

Abstract

The present study mainly focuses to assess the neuroprotective effects of combination of Acoruscalamus (AC) and eugenol in Alzheimer’s model. The animals treated with AC showed remarkable changes in the behavioural studies, itwas observed that neuroprotective activity of the ethanolic extract of AC was observedon the 14th day of treatment as there was a significant reduction in the no. of in correct working memory errors and reference memory errors and significant increase in the correct working memory errors from day 7 was compared to the negative treated group. In IR test, it was observed that there was a significant increase in the number of hits by the 7th day of treatment and significant decrease in the no. of errors in the 14th day treatment when compared with STZ group. Hence from the study, it may be observed of the neuroprotective action as well as memory enhancing capacity of the tested compounds. The study also revealed the neuroprotective activity of Acoruscalamus and Eugenol. Thus it can be concluded that the combination of these compounds produced a remarkable neuroprotective effect, hence showing that this combination may be a helpful treatment in future AD therapies.
