The paper aims to develop a theoretical account of online gaming spaces as a site of digital patriarchy. Using Laura Mulvey’s concept of the male gaze and extending it beyond visual spectatorship, it argues that gaming transforms the gaze into an inter-active regime of power that includes view, control and mastery. Through feminist media theory, Foucauldian notions of surveillance, and critical theories of the public sphere, the paper conceptualizes gaming as a gendered political space where masculinity is normalized as agency and authority, while femininity is positioned as object and (or) disruption. The paper further argues that gaming exemplifies how patriarchy adapts to digital modernity by inserting itself within interactivity and platform capitalism, thus making gendered domination pleasurable and profitable.
