Background: Shlipad is a Kaphaj Disorder in which huge swelling and discoloration of the affected part is present. In the Updrava of Shlipad tridosh dushti along with Rasa and Rakt dhatu takes place. As a result various skin manifestations are seen. Skin diseases are widely described in Ayurveda under Kushtha, involving vitiation of Tridosha along with Rasa and Rakta Dhatu. Jalaukavacharan (leech therapy), a form of Raktamokshana, is especially indicated in Rakta and Pitta predominant disorders4. Aim: To evaluate the efficacy of Jalaukavacharan in the management of Upadrava of Shlipada. (skin manifestations) Materials and Methods: A 70-year-old male patient suffering from Shlipada with chronic skin manifestations over the right lower limb was treated with weekly Jalaukavacharan. A total of 11 sittings were administered. Clinical symptoms were assessed before and after treatment. Results: Significant improvement was observed in edema, itching, pain, discoloration, and scaling of the affected limb. Conclusion: Jalaukavacharan proved to be an effective, safe, and minimally invasive therapy in managing chronic skin manifestations associated with Shlipada.
