Title

The Restructuring of SEBI in India to Modernize the Regulatory Framework of the Capital Market

Abstract

Abstract: The Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) has been undertaking strategic restructuring and reform initiatives to modernize the regulatory framework of India’s capital market. These measures are designed to respond to the evolving nature of financial markets, increased investor participation, and rapid technological developments. The primary objectives of SEBI’s restructuring include enhancing transparency in market operations, simplifying regulatory compliance for intermediaries, integrating advanced technologies into market supervision, and strengthening investor protection mechanisms. Through regulatory rationalization, SEBI has sought to remove outdated provisions and introduce clearer, technology-neutral rules that improve efficiency and ease of doing business. The adoption of digital platforms, improved disclosure norms, and stricter a governance standard has contributed to greater market integrity and accountability. In addition, legislative initiatives and revised regulations aim to align India’s securities market with global best practices, thereby improving its competitiveness and attractiveness to domestic and foreign investors. Overall, SEBI’s restructuring represents a significant step toward creating a robust, transparent, and resilient capital market framework capable of supporting sustainable economic growth and protecting investor interests in a dynamic financial environment.
