Title

The Teachers as a Catalyst: Fulfilling the Potential of SC Girls in Secondary Education

Abstract

Education promotes the development of an individual's ideas, social skills, and personality .The existence and advancement of humanity depend on education. For the benefit of society, education shapes people's attitudes, knowledge, and awareness. For the all-round development of a society, education for every individual is essential. However, the literacy rate among the SC population is only 66.07%, significantly lower than the overall literacy rate of 77.04%.In India, girls from Scheduled Castes (SC) usually face many challenges during their secondary schooling. Their poverty, caste prejudice, and gender inequity make them one of the most illiterate groups (Nambissan, 2009). After basic education, many SC girls drop out of school due to social pressure, early marriage, lack of assistance, and household responsibilities. Teachers support and guidance are essential in helping SC girls reach their full educational potential. Teachers can influence attitudes, build self-esteem, and establish inclusive, secure learning environments in addition to providing academic education. SC girls might be motivated to overcome social obstacles, continue their education, and pursue further education and careers by a kind and encouraging teacher. This study investigates how teachers may empower SC girls students during their secondary school . In this paper an attempt has been made to study the roles of headmasters, school teachers, in promotion of secondary level education of SC girls of Dibrugarh District.
