Title

social media analysis in criminal investigation

Authors

Abstract

Social media platforms have become indispensable to modern criminal investigations, offering vast datasets that serve as actionable intelligence. This research examines the evolving role of social media analysis within law enforcement, focusing on the impact, challenges, and ethical considerations of Social Media Intelligence (SOCMINT). The study investigates how law enforcement agencies (LEAs) leverage digital traces to reconstruct timelines and identify criminal networks. Specifically, it scrutinizes the methodologies and AI-assisted tools employed for crime detection, prevention, and behavioral profiling. Amidst these benefits, the paper addresses the complex ethical and legal landscape surrounding digital evidence. Key focus areas include concerns regarding privacy, data authenticity, and the standards for legal admissibility in court. By exploring issues related to data validity, algorithmic bias, and the rapid evolution of online platforms, this study provides a comprehensive overview of the intersection between social media analysis and criminal justice. Ultimately, this research offers critical insights into the efficacy and limitations of digital evidence in modern law enforcement.
