Title

A Randomised Controlled Clinical Study On Local Application Of Durvadi Tail On Vitapchedan Vrana With Special Reference To Episiotomy Wound

Abstract

Pregnancy is the most joyful experience for a women and her entire family. Giving birth is life-changing event in a women's life and has a long-lasting impact on her life, both physically and mentally. Parturition is a natural process but also a laborious process. In this event of parturition, episiotomy is taken to help a women push out the baby during childbirth. Now a days episiotomy is commonly used surgical method which facilitate the easy delivery. The prevalence rate of episiotomy is 61%.[1] There are benefits of episiotomy and complications are also associated with episiotomy. The perineum is highly prone to infections due to different discharges like vaginal discharges, faeces and urine. Immediate complications are pain, edema, hematoma, infection and remote complications are dyspareunia, chances of perineal tear in subsequent labour can occur. To prevent these complications and for better healing there is need of some treatment which can heal it and minimizes the pain. Different treatment modalities have been told in Ayurveda for vrana chikitsa. Drugs having shodhana and ropana qualities are essential for healing. The present study is conducted to study the efficacy of Ayurvedic medicine Durvadi Tail on Vitapchedan vrana i.e. episiotomy wound. 100 patients from Prasutitantra and Stree Roga OPD & IPD of GACH, Dharashiv were enrolled in this randomised controlled clinical study and allocated to 2 groups. The women in the trial group were treated by Durvadi Tail and control group by Povidone Iodine ointment.
