The present experiment has been designed to investigate the antiestrogenic effect of ICI 182,780 on adult male rats estrogenized withEstradiol. Our previous experiments have demonstrated that 1cm estrogen filled sialistic capsule when implanted subcutaneously in hypophysectomised rats, induces apoptosis after 4 days. Sialistic capsules more than 1cm lead to necrosis of testis. There are studies which demostrate that when estrogen receptor in the rat was blocked by ICI 182,780 alone for 100–150 days, it resultedin testicular atrophy and infertility after 100-150 days. There are no studies which demonstrate the effects of of ICI182,780 and estrogen after a short duration. In our present investigations we have found that ICI182,780+ EE2 inflicted the process of spermatogenesis. Animals implanted with 1 cm estrogen capsule were exposed to Antiestrogen ICI 182,780 1 mg/ gm body weight/day for four days. The sections did not reveal normal spermatogenesis. The sections were marked by the presence of multinucleated giant cells and cell debris. Although the reduction in the seminiferous tubule diameter was seen in the sections but this reduction was found to be insignificant.
