Title

MULTI-CULTURAL LITERATURE: REDEFINING THE REQUISITES FOR COLLEGE STUDENTS

Abstract

This article aims to explore multi-cultural aspects of Literature and how it fosters positive self-esteem and prevents us from feeling isolated. The article also exhibits the ability of multi-cultural literature to nurture human values – respect, empathy and acceptance among all people. The article also helps us to understand the multiple ways through which multi-cultural language and literature can help students develop global awareness by introducing them to current cultural issues. When students experience the feelings and emotions of others through literature, they are encouraged to look critically at the world and gain a greater understanding of the global community. When students examine the themes of a multi-cultural novel or short story, they can connect the various conflicts and cultural issues which took place between the discourses within a text to the similar conflicts in other pertinent fiction, newspapers, historical texts, and non-fictional literary texts. This paper also aims to examine the ways of incorporating multi-cultural literary texts in English language teaching curriculum. It also assists them with their identity formation which is important in the social development of all human beings. It gives them a sense of belonging and acceptance in society. It was a great event to live and defend the opponents.
