Title

Abstract

Study: "A study to evaluate the effectiveness of structured teaching program regarding Breast Self-Examination in terms of knowledge among working women from selected occupational areas of Ahmedabad." Background: Breast cancer remains a major health concern among women particularly in urban populations. Limited awareness, cultural barriers and inadequate knowledge of Breast Self-Examination contribute to delayed detection. Breast Self-Examination is a simple, cost-effective method that promotes early identification of breast abnormalities. This study emphasizes the importance of educating working women on Breast Self-Examination to enhance early detection and improve health outcomes. Objectives: To evaluate the effectiveness of structured teaching programme on knowledge regarding Breast Self-Examination among working women from selected occupational areas of Ahmedabad. Methodology: Quantitative research approach was used with pre-experimental (one group pre-test and post-test) research design. 60 Samples were selected by non-probability convenience sampling technique and structured knowledge questionnaire was developed. Results: According to the findings, the mean post-test Knowledge score was significantly higher than the mean of pre-test knowledge score with mean difference of (7.4) the calculated "T" value 14.35 was greater than the tabulated ‘t' value (2.00) at 0.05 level of significance therefore the null hypothesis Ho was rejected and research hypothesis Hi was accepted and it revealed that the structure teaching programme was effective in increasing the knowledge of Breast Self-Examination among working women from selected occupational areas of Ahmedabad. The findings also revealed that a significant association has been found in place of residence and educational qualification. Hence, the research hypothesis H2 was accepted. Conclusion: Structured teaching program regarding Breast Self-Examination was effective in improving knowledge regarding Breast Self-Examination among working women in selected occupational areas of Ahmedabad.
