The Hypertension is one of the most common chronic cardiovascular disorders and is a major risk factor for heart disease, stroke, and renal failure. It is characterized by a persistent elevation of arterial blood pressure resulting from complex interactions between genetic, environmental, and lifestyle factors. The pathophysiology of hypertension involves multiple mechanisms including activation of the sympathetic nervous system, dysfunction of the renin–angiotensin–aldosterone system (RAAS), endothelial dysfunction, and vascular remodeling. Effective management of hypertension is essential to reduce associated morbidity and mortality. Pharmacological treatment plays a crucial role in controlling blood pressure and preventing complications. Several classes of antihypertensive drugs such as ACE inhibitors, angiotensin receptor blockers, calcium channel blockers, beta-blockers, and diuretics are widely used in clinical practice. The present review aims to summarize the current understanding of the pathophysiology of hypertension and discuss the pharmacological approaches used in its management.
