Lantana camara Linn. is an important ethnomedicinal plant with several medicinal properties. It is widely used in the traditional medicinal system as carminative, anti-inflammatory, antipyretic and respiratory system infections. The present investigation was carried out to determine the qualitative and quantitative analysis of phytochemicals present in the leaves and flowers of Lantana camara using methanolic extract along with its antimicrobial activity against some bacterial species like Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Bacillus subtilis. The flower extract shows highest zone of inhibition against Pseudomonas aeruginosa, 9.4±0.64 mm. Leaves shows higher phenolic, flavonoid and iron chelating activity. Flower extract contains more alkaloid content (%) 3.26±1.17. The results of the present study concluded that Lantana camara leaves and flower contains a good source of phytochemicals, and have a promising application as nutraceuticals for herbal drug formulations.
