In Ayurveda, Ama is a fundamental pathogenic entity caused by diminished Agni (digestive and metabolic fire). It is a key factor in the development of many systemic illnesses. Classical literature describe Dushi visha as a toxin that remains in the body for a long time and causes persistent and subtle symptoms. Chronicity, systemic involvement, and pathogenic potential are common characteristics of both organisms. Objective: Analyse the ancient idea of Ama and its relationship with Dūṣī Viṣa using Ayurvedic literature. Methodology: This study is a literary review that draws on classical Ayurvedic works such as Charaka Samhita, Sushruta Samhita, and Ashtanga Hridaya, as well as comments and contemporary interpretations. The analysis shows parallels between Ama and Dushi Visha in aetiology, characteristics, chronic progression, and systemic tissue involvement. Conclusion: Ama is an endogenous toxic state, while Dushi visha signifies retained or changed poison. Chronic Ama and Dushi visha exhibit shared disease characteristics, indicating functional similarities.
