Title

SIMULATION-BASED PERFORMANCE ANALYSIS OF EIGRPv3 PROTOCOL WITH AUTHENTICATION IN IPv6 NETWORKS

Abstract

Enhanced Interior Gateway Routing Protocol (EIGRP) is a widely used dynamic routing protocol in modern IP networks, especially in enterprise environments. With the advent of IPv6, EIGRPv3 was introduced, bringing improvements in scalability and performance. However, securing routing information exchanges is crucial to prevent malicious attacks such as route hijacking or spoofing. To address this, EIGRPv3 supports authentication mechanisms that ensure only trusted routers can participate in the routing process. This research presents a simulation-based analysis of the EIGRPv3 protocol with authentication. The study focuses on understanding how authentication impacts the protocol’s performance in terms of convergence time, packet delivery ratio, CPU utilization, and network overhead. Using simulation tools such as Cisco Packet Tracer 9.0 different network topologies are configured with and without authentication settings to evaluate performance differences. The results of this study help network administrators and researchers understand the trade-offs between enhanced security and network efficiency in EIGRPv3. The analysis aims to support better decision-making when implementing secure routing protocols in real-world networks. Simulation results show that EIGRPv3 with authentication introduces minimal overhead while maintaining fast convergence and secure routing performance in IPv6 networks.
