Title

An IoT Enabled Ground Movement Monitoring System for Real Time Landslide

Abstract

Earth movement phenomena, including landslides, gradual soil displacement, and ground settling, create significant threats to build infrastructure, public safety, and environmental stability. Traditional surveillance methods typically require substantial financial investment and intensive manual labour, and they fail to provide immediate response capabilities. This research introduces an Internet of Things (IoT) framework for monitoring terrain displacement that delivers continuous, cost-effective, and instantaneous tracking of both surface and underground movement. The developed framework incorporates sensor units containing accelerometer, rain sensor, soil moisture sensor, vibration sensor, MEMS sensor, GPS and temperature and humidity sensor and paired with microcontroller for on-site data analysis and wireless transmission components that relay information to cloud-based platforms. The gathered information undergoes analysis to identify unusual displacement behaviours and activate warning notifications via web-based or mobile applications. In this paper ground movement monitoring system is simulated using the proteus software and results were collected.
