Title

A Comparative Clinical Study Of Efficacy Of Shatapatri Pushpa (Rosa Damascena .Mill ) And Jati Pushpa ( Jasminum Grandiflorum.Linn) In Anidra Vis-A-Vis Insomnia By Aromatherapy

Abstract

Ahara, Nidra, and Brahmacharya are the Trayopasthambha, with Nidra playing a vital role in maintaining physical and mental health. Anidra is classified under Nanatmaja Vata Vikara and is considered an Adharaneeya Vega. Sleep regulates metabolism, immunity, learning, and memory, and its disturbance affects Sukha–Dukha, Bala–Abala, and even Jivana–Marana. Ayurveda attributes Anidra to Kapha-Tamas imbalance and psychological stress. Considering the adverse effects of modern sedatives, aromatherapy offers a safe holistic approach. In this study, 40 subjects were randomly divided into two groups: Group A received Shatapatri essential oil and Group B received Jati Pushpa essential oil inhalation. Four drops of oil were diffused in 400 ml hot water and inhaled nasally for 5 minutes at bedtime for 7 days, following the principle of Manaso Anuguna Gandha. Assessment was done using subjective parameters and the Athens Insomnia Scale on days 0, 7, and 14. Both groups showed statistically significant improvement, with Group A showing 73.56% and Group B 69.40% improvement. Aromatherapy with both oils proved safe and effective for Anidra, with Jati Pushpa showing a slight overall clinical advantage, validating Ayurvedic management as a side-effect-free alternative.
