Title

VIRTUAL MOUSE USING MEDIAPIPE AND OPENCV

Abstract

This paper presents a Virtual Mouse system based on computer vision and real-time hand tracking techniques. The proposed system enables touchless human–computer interaction without the need for physical input devices.[6] A standard webcam is used to capture live video streams. The captured frames are processed to detect and track hand movements with high accuracy. MediaPipe is employed for robust hand landmark detection and tracking. OpenCV is utilized for image processing and real-time frame analysis.[1]. The system recognizes multiple predefined hand gestures. These gestures include two-finger, pinch, punch, palm, and finger-joining gestures. Each recognized gesture is mapped to a corresponding mouse control action. Cursor movement is achieved by tracking fingertip coordinates. Clicking operations are performed using specific finger combinations[2]. Drag-and-drop functionality is implemented through continuous gesture detection. Pinch-based gestures are further used to control system volume dynamically. Similar gesture mapping is applied to adjust screen brightness levels. The system is implemented in the Anaconda environment, providing an efficient, low-cost, and user-friendly alternative to conventional mouse devices.
