An ancient viz., Lokopakara authored by Chavundaraya (1025 AD.) is examined positively for its scientific rational content with particular emphasis on the science of ethnoveterinary. Originally it was written regional language Kannada. It is focused especially for aspects of gynaecology and general healthcare of cattle and healthcare of horses. A total 23 plant species belonging to 20 genera and 14 families are found employed for gynaecological purpose. Various diseases of cattle were also treated using 43 plants species pertaining to 41 genera and 38 families. The horses were also cared on this ground by applications of as many as 71 plant species pertaining to 68 genera and 43 families. Apart from these medicinal resources, medicinal preparations, methods of administeration, plant parts used and other miscellaneous substances employed are limelighted. These bioresources can be employed even in modern era being time-tested by the ancient Indians. Such mundane scriptures in regional languages are also source of scientific information and hence need their re-investigation for well-being of all.
