The term Dhatu refers to the fundamental structural entities of the body that are essential for its maintenance, nourishment, and growth. According to Ayurvedic physiology, the body is composed of seven Dhatus, which not only uphold the organism through Dharana but also participate in the nourishment of succeeding tissues through an orderly and continuous process of Poshana. This process of tissue nutrition continues throughout life and exhibits variations according to age, physiological state, and metabolic activity. To explain the mechanisms underlying tissue nourishment and differentiation, Ayurvedic scholars proposed the doctrine of Dhatu Poshana Nyaya. This doctrine encompasses Ksheera Dadhi Nyaya, Khale Kapota Nyaya, Kedari Kulya Nyaya, and Eka Kala Dhatu Poshana Nyaya, each of which explains a distinct aspect of nutrient transformation, selective uptake, transportation, and simultaneous distribution. Thus, these principles offer an important conceptual foundation for understanding tissue metabolism and differentiation in Ayurveda.
