Title

DESIGN OF WATER QUALITY MONITORING SYSTEM USING EDGE PROCESSING TECHNIQUE

Abstract

The Internet of Things (IoT) provides an effective approach for real-time water quality monitoring by connecting sensors, embedded controllers, and cloud-based monitoring platforms. This paper presents a low-cost IoT-enabled water quality monitoring system based on the ESP8266 NodeMCU microcontroller, integrated with turbidity, pH, and DS18B20 temperature sensors. The system continuously acquires water quality parameters and performs initial data processing at the edge using the ESP8266 before transmitting the measured information to the Blynk cloud platform through a wireless connection. Turbidity measurements are used to assess the clarity of water, while the pH sensor determines whether the water is acidic or alkaline. The DS18B20 sensor provides temperature measurements, which are useful for monitoring variations in water conditions and supporting reliable sensor measurements. By processing sensor data locally, the proposed system reduces unnecessary data transmission and enables faster monitoring. The Blynk platform provides a user-friendly interface for remotely visualizing sensor readings and observing water quality conditions in real time. Experimental testing demonstrates the feasibility of the developed prototype for continuous water quality observation. The proposed system is economical, compact, and suitable for applications such as agricultural water monitoring, aquaculture, and environmental water-quality assessment.
