Population ageing has emerged as one of the major social concerns in developing countries, particularly in India, where changing family structures and urbanization have weakened traditional family support systems. Consequently, an increasing number of elderly persons are residing in old age homes. Although institutional care provides shelter, food, and healthcare, elderly inmates continue to experience numerous physical, psychological, emotional, and social challenges. The present study examines the problems faced by 330 institutionalized elderly residents living in selected old age homes. The study focuses on disability, activities of daily living, loneliness, abuse, health ailments, healthcare utilization, and self-rated health status. Descriptive statistics, correlation, and ANOVA were employed for data analysis. The findings reveal that depression, poor health status, lack of doctor availability, verbal abuse, and chronic illnesses remain major concerns among institutionalized elderly. The study recommends strengthening healthcare services, counselling, recreational activities, and geriatric care to improve the quality of life of elderly residents.
