The head houses the brain and the most vital control, processing, and sensory center of the human body. Ardhavabhedaka is described among the disorders of the head (Shiroroga) in Ayurvedic literature and is characterized predominantly by severe headache. Migraine is a recurrent neurological disorder characterized by episodic moderate-to-severe headache, commonly associated with nausea, vomiting, photophobia and phonophobia.(1) In Ayurvedic literature, the clinical presentation of migraine can be correlated with Ardhavabhedaka, a disorder described under Shiroroga. Brahmi Ghrita is an Ayurvedic medicated ghee preparation traditionally used in contexts related to Medhya and nervous-system functions. The present case was undertaken to document the clinical management of Ardhavabhedaka using Brahmi Ghrita and to discuss its clinical correlation with migraine.
