Title

Iron Oxide–Epoxy Resin Nanocomposites for Electromagnetic Interference and Ionizing Radiation Shielding in Modern Hospitals: A Patent Review

Abstract

This review evaluates the patent landscape concerning iron oxide-reinforced epoxy resin nanocomposites to address the dual necessity for electromagnetic interference mitigation and ionizing radiation attenuation within high-tech clinical environments (Khalil et al., 2024; Orasugh & Ray, 2023). As medical facilities become increasingly saturated with sensitive diagnostic equipment and wireless communication systems, the proliferation of electromagnetic interference may pose risks to device operational reliability and diagnostic accuracy (Dassan et al., 2020; Ma et al., 2024). Simultaneously, the integration of high-energy diagnostic modalities may necessitate advanced shielding solutions to mitigate the risks associated with ionizing radiation exposure for both patients and staff (Bawazeer et al., 2023). By synthesizing patent data, this analysis suggests that the synergy between high-permeability iron oxide particles and the structural versatility of epoxy resins offers a robust framework for developing multifunctional, lightweight protection (Ayub et al., 2021; Reddy & Bharath., 2024). This synthesis highlights the material design criteria required to suppress electromagnetic disruption—which can impair critical clinical apparatus and affect sensitive biological organs (Bora et al., 2020; Srivastava & Manna, 2022)—while simultaneously addressing the stringent safety protocols inherent in radiation-intensive diagnostic settings (Bawazeer et al., 2023). Furthermore, the integration of these materials may help address the growing challenge of electromagnetic pollution, which can compromise the operational integrity of life-critical electronic systems within hospital infrastructure (G.M. et al., 2024; Lopes et al., 2023).
