Title

Quantum-Scale Charge Transport in Nanostructured Materials for Advanced Energy Storage Applications

Abstract

Charge transport at the nanoscale limits the power density, rate capability and cycle life of electrochemical energy storage devices. This paper proposes the Series-Bottleneck Quantum Transport (SBQT) model, which joins confinement-shifted conduction, WKB tunnelling across conductor junctions, percolation, ion diffusion and interfacial charge transfer into one set of seven equations and a short algorithm. The model returns a time constant for each transport step and the net capacity delivered at any C-rate. Applied to a representative low-conductivity oxide cathode, it shows that the limiting step switches from the electron network to ion diffusion at a particle size of about 50 nm; that each 0.1 nm of junction gap raises junction resistance by a factor of 2.8; and that the optimum particle size falls from about 27 nm at 1C to 13 nm at 10C when the network is good, but stays near 22 nm when the network is poor. Sensitivity analysis ranks conductor loading, ion diffusivity and junction barrier as the levers with the largest effect. The paper gives a validation route based on standard measurements, and the 128-line Python code is provided for reproduction.
