Abstract
The system consists of permeable paver blocks, a bedding layer, a base and sub-base aggregate reservoir, and suitable drainage arrangements. Depending on site conditions, the collected water can infiltrate into the soil, be stored for non-potable purposes, or be discharged through an underdrain. The project also introduces a smart monitoring system using sensors to observe water levels and rainfall conditions and provide alerts when inspection or maintenance is required.
The study explains the basic principles, design criteria, site investigation, hydraulic calculations, construction methodology, quality control, operation, and maintenance of the proposed system. It also considers groundwater protection, water quality, safety, cost, and environmental sustainability. The effectiveness of the system depends on soil infiltration capacity, rainfall intensity, groundwater level, storage capacity, and regular maintenance.
The proposed smart permeable paver system can help reduce surface runoff, manage rainwater, and support groundwater recharge under suitable site conditions. It provides a conceptual approach to sustainable stormwater management and water conservation in residential areas, educational campuses, parking spaces, and public places.
