Title

An Alternative Strategy to Influence Second Language Acquisition in Children

Authors

Abstract

English Language has acquired a comparatively important place in various fields like medicine, science, technology, industry, arts etc. and there is a booming demand on learning English language. A phenomenal growth is witnessed in the sphere of language acquisition by the non-native speakers of English and there are significant theories and pedagogies evolved to teach English language effectively. The traditional language teaching aim at churning the complexities involved in learning second language and devote in achieving communicative skills by enslaving the mind to a methodological analysis of linguistic units. The changing paradigms of English language teaching to young children encompass instructional methods, assignments, teaching basic grammar with a designed syllabus, etc. which aims at encouraging the students to focus on curriculum oriented results; rather it overlooks the acquisition of second language. Stephen Krashen comprehends the meaning between learning and acquisition with his monitor model that comprises five hypothesis of second language acquisition. Krashen’s theory recommends free volunteer reading among children to develop their comprehensible input to receive messages and express voluntarily in second language. Further, when language acquisition takes place in subconscious level, spontaneity of language becomes natural on contrary to forced, conscious learning. The paper aims at facilitating second language acquisition with an overview of children literature that enhances the specific communicative ability among children.
