Suruli hills in southern Western Ghats have a great wealth of medicinal plants. They play a important role of primary health care system among the local peoples and tribes of suruli hills. As they are settled far away from the urban area, they cannot take modern health care facilities. So they are totally dependent on traditional medicinal practices. During the last few decades, there has been increasing interest in the study of medicinal plants and their traditional uses in various parts of the world. The present study is conducted to make a place for many unrecognized medicinal plants in clinical trials. The medicinal plant resources in suruli hills are currently under threat because of deforestation, conversion of natural vegetation into crop lands, extensive clearing of human settlements, lying of roads etc., further more the large scale invasion of exotic plants in the region may also have resulted in the change of natural vegetation into synecological interaction. . So the present study has been carried out for first time to document the indigenous plant knowledge used by the tribes of Suruli hills in Theni district from July 2017 to December 2018. In the present study 59 medicinal plants were documented. They were to treat diseases like diabetes, cough, cold, asthma, diarrhea, hydrophobia, indigestion, poisonous bites, hair fall etc.,
