Title

SYNTHESIS, SPECTRAL CHARACTERIZATION, DNA INTERACTION AND BIOLOGICAL EVALUATION OF COPPER(II) COMPLEX WITH A NEW SCHIFF BASE LIGAND: N, Nˈ - (INDOLINE-2,3 –DIYLIDENE)BIS(4-NITROANILINE)

Abstract

Schiff bases play an important role in medicinal and pharmaceutical fields because of their wide spectrum of biological activities. Transition metal complexes derived from the Schiff base ligands with biological activity have been widely studied. This paper has been aimed at the synthesis of mononuclear copper(II) complex from the condensation of a new Schiff base ligand N, Nˈ-(indoline-2,3–diylidene)bis(4-nitroaniline) and copper(II) chloride salt. The synthesized Schiff base and the metal complex have been characterized by IR, NMR, Electronic spectra followed by Elemental analysis and molar conductance studies. The electronic and magnetic susceptibility studies suggest a distorted octahedral structure around the central metal ion in the metal complex. DNA cleavage activity of the complex and new Schiff base ligand were screened using gel electrophoresis technique. Antimicrobial tests showed good results in the presence of metal ion in the ligand system.
