ECTOPARASITES ON POULTRY OF VILLUPPURAM DISTRICT, SOUTH INDIA

Abstract
The current study shows that ectoparasites are highly prevalent and type of ectoparasites and to identify risk factors associated with ectoparasite infestations in poultry at Villupuram, Tamilnadu. Between March 2015 and February 2016 a total of 650 chickens were captured and examined thoroughly for the presence of external parasites. Manual extraction methods were employed to collect the ectoparasites from chickens. Results showed that 570 chickens (88%) were found to be infected with ectoparasites.The lice moderately infested 419 chickens (64%). The flea extensively infested 266 (40%) chickens. The mites attacked the head region of 570 (88%) and the ticks was observed 186 (29%) of the poultry birds, respectively.
