Title

A Comparative Study of Bahubali with Shakespear’s Othello

Authors

Abstract

This paper aims at establishing a relationship between the epic movie Bahubali and Shakespeare’s tragedy Othello. Othello is one among the four major tragedies of Shakespeare which revolves around the story and the downfall of Othello, murder of Desdemona and the Iago happily satisfied for his evil notions. The analysis also bridges three different literatures with the movie through profound comparisons and delicate spider webs. The plot of the movie revolves around the protagonist Mahendra Bahubali, learning his past and successfully throning back his mother Devasena after her several years of imprisonment by his cruel uncle Palvaaldevan. Perhaps, the study scrutinizes the movie through literary theories such as, primarily, the reader-response theory that throws limelight on the reviews, interpretations of the audience and the movie’s impact on the mass. Furthermore, is the theory of feminism which concerns about the real status of women and the discriminations undergone by, them. The feministic spirit in the movie is depicted in the form of boldness in the characterization of almost all the female characters of the movie like Sivagami, Devasena and Avanthika. Such female characters have an ample number of lessons to teach today’s feminism. In addition to these theories employed to analyse the movie there is another great theory lying behind this magnum opus of S.S.Rajamouli which is none other than the animation theory that discuses about the realistic but, historical background effects and the sound systems which forms the backbone of the whole movie.

Key Words
