The article explores the elements of postmodernism as it is reflected in the selected novels of Ian Russell McEwan. Atonement (2001) and On Chesil Beach (2007). The first section of the article deals with the concept of postmodernism and its features, it also discusses the treatment of postmodernism in these novels. The second part concentrates on elements like metafiction, pastiche, intertextuality, and so on. Finally the article justifies that Ian Russell McEwan as a postmodern writer. Postmodernism emerges as an offshoot of modernism at the beginning of the twentieth century, it is believed to have begun during the nineteenth century. It is like an earthquake in the field of arts and several other cultural movements, also brought several changes in culture, paintings, literature, music and architecture. Its general characteristics are general skepticism to questioning the optimism of the modernity of the enlightenment rather than believing it blindly. As a result of it, there are huge numbers of remarkable trends and movements emerging across the world.
