Title

REVIEW ON DESIGN AND ANALYSIS OF RADIATOR USING NANOFLUID

Abstract

Radiators are heat exchangers used to transfer thermal energy from one medium to another for the purpose of cooling and heating. Radiators are used for cooling internal combustion engines, mainly in automobiles but also in piston-engine aircraft, railway locomotives, stationary generating plant or any similar use of such an engine. The flow behavior & temperature profile prediction in the radiator tubes are very useful information & is of great importance to the designer. For the preliminary design, the performance of the radiator can be accessed through Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD). CFD is a science that can be helpful for studying fluid flow, heat transfer, chemical reactions etc. by solving mathematical equations with the help of numerical analysis. In automobiles for cooling internal combustion engines, the radiator transfers the heat from the fluid inside to the air outside, thereby cooling the fluid, which in turn cools the engine. Traditionally forced convection heat transfer is performed to cool circulating fluid which consists of water or a mixture of water and anti-freezing materials like Ethylene Glycol (EG). These heat transfer fluids offer low thermal conductivity, with the advancement of nanotechnology, the new generation of heat transfer fluids called, “NANOFLUIDS” have been developed and researchers found that these fluids offer higher thermal conductivity compared to that of conventional coolants, which further improve cooling efficiency.

Key Words

Radiator, Heat transfer, CFD, Nanofluid (Ethylene Glycol).
