Title

REVIEW ON: EXPERIMENTAL INVESTIGATION OF THERMAL PERFORMANCE ENHANCEMENT OF HELICAL COIL HEAT EXCHANGER WITH PROTRUDED TUBES

Abstract

The study of enhanced heat transfer has gained serious momentum during recent years, however, due to increased demands by industry for heat exchange equipment that is less expensive to build and operate than standard heat exchange devices. Savings in materials and energy use also provide strong motivation for the development of improved methods of enhancement. This investigation emphasize on experimental work to enhance the heat transfer by some modification on the surface of the heat exchanger tube. The modification will be made by inserting some protruded shape sheet metal surface within the tube and the surface of sheet metal attached to the surface of the tube. The experiment would be done by using the parameter viz. stream wise spacing, span wise spacing and varying Reynolds number. The various passive techniques will enhance the heat transfer rate, due to the presence of the protrusion on the heat exchanger tube over the conventional smooth heat exchanger tube. The statistical correlations for Nusselt number, friction factor and thermo hydraulic performance factor as a function of flow and roughness parameters expected to develop with the aid of experimental data for different set of roughness parameters.
