Title

OPTIMIZATION OF HARD STEEL TURNING BY TAGUCHI METHOD AND RESPONSE SURFACE METHODOLOGY

Abstract

Hard steel is turned in dry cutting environment following Taguchi L16 design of experiments (DOE); and influence of machining process parameters on the surface roughness and surface finish are investigated. The multiple responses are optimized simultaneously using Taguchi based grey relational analysis. Analysis of Variance Roughness Surface Methodology (RSM) reveals that cutting speed is the most significant parameter followed by feed; and the influence of depth of cut is insignificant. Quadratic response surface models are generated for both the responses; and their adequacy is verified.
