Empowerment of women is the process in which women are allowed to participate in all areas and sectors, weather it is related to family or society. Still there are many areas in which women are suppressing against their self respect due to belief in superstitions. The purpose of this paper is to describe the present situation of women in the society and crimes against women such as dowry, sexual harassment, acid attacks, domestic violence, trafficking, kidnaps and rape attempts. There is an tremendous growth of crime against women every year . The major cause of rise in crime rate is lack of education which consists of values and morals, early marriages , not having proper awareness. However, empowerment of women plays significant role in development of the country. Eradicating the crimes against women from the roots of the country may be difficult but not impossible. Still we can find the birth place of morality and humanity in human heart. So, by implementing some programs like providing awareness programs and promoting equality we can able to find the path to the empowerment of women.
