Title

NOMINAL OPE RATING CELL TEM PERATURE (NOCT)

Abstract

Aim of this study is to find the equilibrium mean solar cell junction temperature with an open-rack mounted module in the following standard reference environme nt (SRE). PV modules based on thin film technolog ies are used for this; Problems with deficient power prediction of PV pow er plants have manifold reasons: One of the easily a ccessible is the measurement of NOCT (Nominal Operating Cell Temperatu re). Deviations of NOCTs measured have a direct i nfluence of the yield predicted. NOCT is usually done in the environmental conditions where the solar modules are tested in the w orst conditions so that we get to know how much power the solar module is generating in the field under tough environmental co nditions. The deviations due to different measurement methods and different temperature sensors have been discussed in theory (systematic error) and have been investigated in laboratory tests as well as under real world conditions in an outdoor lab. N OCT (Nominal Operating Cell Temperature) is usually conducted using one solar module but using this study we have designed a new mechanical design where we can test 3 modules of different manufa cturers. With the help of this test, the PV manufa cturers can design the modules according to the test data and thus increases the efficiency, reliability and time taken to conduct the test decreases. The thermal behavior is studied and the measurement results are compared to theoretical models. As a result th e theoretical yield as a function of the measured NOCT is compared for diffe rent installation sites and for different technologies.
