Title

NOVEL 3D ELECTROCOAGUL ATION TREATMENT FOR COLOUR A ND COD REDUCTION OF TEXTILE WASTEWATER

Abstract

Textile industries are among the most polluting industries regarding the volume and the complexity of treatment of its effluents discharge. This study investigated the efficiency of electro coagulation process using aluminum electrodes in basic dye removal from textile wastewater. This study was performed in a bipolar batch reactor with two al uminum electrodes connected in parallel. Several important parameters, such as initial pH of solution, initial colour, Turbidity, COD, applied voltage; and reaction time were studied in an attempt to achieve higher removal efficiency. The electrochemical tec hnique showed satisfactory dye removal efficiency and reliable performance in treating of blue dye. The maximum efficiency of d ye removal which was obtained in voltage of 18 V, reaction time of 60 min , initial colour 483pcu, Turbidity 96 fau, COD 144mg/l and pH 7.23. Our results indicate that almost 70% of COD & 84% of colour removed. As a conclusion, the method was f ound to be highly efficient and relatively fast compared to conventional exis ting techniques for dye removal from textile wastewater.
