Title

IMPACT OF CLIMATE CHANGE ON CHOCOLATES AND A FUTURE WITH RUBY CHOCOLATES

Abstract

Taste is socially constructed and that the food tastes we have and we make choices about what we eat are determined by social factors.” (Sloan, 2004) One of the most instructive case studies of today is the food. There is a vast intricate connection between many other central processes of social life and the food, which includes its preparation as well as its consumption. Food is also a significant means of cultural expression and is often used as a general means of commentary on contemporary culture. The ultimate metaphorical source of the concept of taste is the culinary practice, which is also associated with various other lifestyles. (Warde, 1997) Earlier tastes used to develop along with the culture or trend in which you live in. When Individuals get together they form a society, where the social impact is more on individuals to decide their taste. But now a day’s tastes develop with the style and choice of an individual, however individual tastes can be different within a family too. Not only the taste differs, the way and style of living, talking, eating etc. also differs. Two people living together may differ from each other and the ways of doing everything that they do also differs, then why can’t their taste differ! Individual’s taste develops from a society, by being one of them or absorbing others society and its culture. The link between the objective as well as the subjective components of class is the concept that is known as habitus. It can be seen as including a set of dispositions, tendencies to do some things rather than in other ways. These tendencies prohibit us from behaving or acting in any other kind of ways. So therefore our sence is inculcated with the patterns of behaviours common to a particular habitus of who and what we are. So habitus disposes individuals to make certain choices but being in the frame of a society. (Sloan, 2004) Example: - Britishers in their breakfast have cornflakes and toast and Indians would like to have heavy breakfast like parathas etc. So therefore it all depends on their cultures, which make them eat in what their culture depicts. But now the world is changing as we are in 21st century in a globalized and highly competitive world, people have a very busy and hectic life style. Like for example: - in China people eat snakes, lizards etc. but Indians will never eat something like that, which shows that what is their culture all about as it lies in a social construct, that what their own society has given them in terms of food/taste.

Key Words

CULINARY TASTE IS A SOCIAL CONSTRUCT, NOT AN EXPRESSION OF INDIVIDUALITY
