This study was aimed to identify the adoption factors which significantly affect the decision of tea estates of eastern regions of India to adopt various sustainability certifications. A questionnaire survey for74 certified tea estates and 54 non-certified recognized tea estates from Darjeeling and Dooars areas of West Bengal and Upper Assam, Lower Assam and Cachar areas of Assam was conducted. The findings showed that management commitment and market, regulatory and social dynamics are the most substantial factor which affects decision of adoption of sustainability certifications. A majority of the respondents were optimistic and they believed the implementation of sustainability certification was good to the company and it benefited them.
