This paper contributes to the development of computer-based support for the concept development phase of the design of mechatronic systems. The complexity of the data management aspects of the product models can be significant throughout the design process. Functional modeling concerns functional description of the design intention. Port modeling is an important aspect of the design process, especially for data management. This paper investigates the modeling capabilities of the System Modeling Language SysML for modeling the functional level interfaces of interconnection. It helps as well in the complexity reduction of the design data management.
