Honey bees are one of the social insects where the queen bee is known to produce pheromones that elicit different types of behavioural and physiological responses. These pheromones are produced in multiple glands which yield synergistic or redundant effects. for e.g. increased retinue responses. These pheromones are a blend of many dynamic components that allows the interactions among other members of the colony. They significantly affect different types of behavior such as male mating and many other major facets of worker’s social organization. These pheromones could be either a single chemical component or could be the blend of many other chemicals which varies in the percentages. In addition, Pheromones can be classified into two types releaser pheromones that have a temporary effect on the recipient’s behavior and could get immediate response and primer pheromone which has a long-lasting effect on the behavior of the recipient. Under certain conditions, these pheromones can serve the dual purpose both releaser as well as a primer.
