The PGPR (plant growth promoting rhizobacteria) is setting standards for soils by becoming productive and improving environmental conditions at the same time. These bacteria, as the name suggests are associated with the rhizosphere of plants and improve the crop productivity as well as quality of plants in general while eradicating the stresses of stressed plants by large. Various mechanisms are used by PGPR to help plants grow in stressed conditions like by providing easy access to nutrients and also by producing certain chemicals that are toxic to plant pathogens and the plant in return provides the bacteria with carbon supply and hence a connection of mutualism is established which benefits both. This article deals with these PGPR and their role in salt stress tolerance and although they are greatly being studied, a lot more is yet to be explored.
