Title

Spread Of Resistant Microbes From Animals To Humans - A Major Concern

Abstract

The use of antibiotics in animal feeds as feed additives has became a global concern and also a matter of controversy due to the undesirable resistance development in pathogenic microbes which can lead to various health issues in humans as well as animals. This concern is significantly studied in United States and European Union, where they conducted surveys and investigations regarding the effect of antimicrobial use in animal feed additives. The spread of the resistant microbes is also a major concern which can easily be transmitted from animals to humans.Antibiotics are used in animals and animal-feeds to promote the growth and for prophylaxis of the sick food-animals. The prolong use of antibiotics as growth promoters in food-animals has been questioned and there is a strong requirement to limit or stop this practice and most importantly there must be a ban on use of same antibiotics in animals, animal-feeds and humans.Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has been investigating whether the existing products like animal feeds are regulated and warranted. Several recommendations were made regarding public health concerns which constitutes professional education in the field of infections and diseases and proper use and selection of antibiotics, programme for education in food-safety for veterinaries and producers of animals and raising surveillance programmes to regulate the increasing number resistant pathogens.
