Embelia ribes is an important medicinal plant belonging to family Primulaceae. This plant is commonly known as false black pepper plant and since ancient time being used as in several herbal medicines for the treatment of various diseases. Almost all parts of E. ribes such as stem, leaves, roots, seeds and barks possess very good medicinal properties. Various herbal preparations made from different parts of the E. ribes are widely used worldwide for the treatment of diuretic problems, astringent, inflammation, microbial infections and helminthic infections. Owing to its medicinal properties this review is an effort to summarize the medicinal properties of E. ribes.
